PREFACE

The following Hymns, reprinted from the Sketches of the "Friends of God," of "The Quiet in the Land," and from the collection, now out of print, called "Service of Song," are sent forth in a separate form, in answer to the requests of many who are unacquainted with the language of the German authors, Gerhardt Ter Steegen and Heinrich Suso. For German readers, the hymns of Ter Steegen can be found in full (the translations being occasionally curtailed) in the "Blumen-Gartlein" of Gerhardt Ter Steegen. May they serve to lead some souls into the Land of Rest.
