35. Claudian, who seems to have read the history of
Ammianus, speaks of this great revolution in a much less
courtly style:
Postquam jura ferox in se communia Caesar
Transtulit; et lapsi mores; desuetaque priscis
Artibus, in gremium pacis servile recessi.
