7. I use the familiar appellation of Clovis, from the Latin 'Chlodovechus' or 'Chlodovaeus'. But the "Ch" expresses only the German aspiration; and the true name is not different from 'Luduin' or 'Lewis' (Mem. de l'Academie des Inscriptions tom. xx. p. 68).
