Jesus' command in Matthew 23:9 doesn't apply to the use of that term for

the priests, but that it is merely a title that shows respect. The priests,

as ordinary ministers of Baptism, are regarded as spiritual fathers.

CHRISTIAN COMMENT

A study of Matthew 23:9 reveals that Jesus was talking about being called

Father as a title of religious superiority, precisely as the priests are

called. This religious superiority is the basis for the Hierarchy.
