EASTERN ORTHODOX CHURCH

BASIC R.C. BELIEF

Officially known as Eastern schismatic churches, they came into being in

1054 when the Patriarch of Constantinople and the Pope, arguing about

authority, issued joint ex-communications. There is little doctrinal

difference between the two.

POST VATICAN II

In recent years, great advances have been made toward unity. In Vatican II,

validity of Eastern Orthodox sacraments and priests was acknowledged. The

Pope and Patriarch have nullified the ex-communications, paving the way for

full unity.
