SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS

NUM 16:3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron,

and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are

holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift ye up

yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

DEU 9:4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast

them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me

in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth

drive them out from before thee.

DEU 9:5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost

thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD

thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word

which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

DEU 9:6 Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giveth thee not this good

land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.

1SA 2:9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in

darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

JOB 6:13 Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?

JOB 11:4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

JOB 11:5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

JOB 11:6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are

double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than

thine iniquity deserveth.

JOB 12:2 No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

JOB 13:3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

JOB 13:13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me

what will.

JOB 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine

own ways before him.

JOB 13:18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be

justified.

JOB 13:19 Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I

shall give up the ghost.

JOB 16:17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.

JOB 16:18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

JOB 18:2 How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards

we will speak.

JOB 18:3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

JOB 18:4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee?

and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

JOB 21:27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully

imagine against me.

JOB 21:28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the

dwelling places of the wicked?

JOB 21:29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their

tokens,

JOB 22:2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable

unto himself?

JOB 22:3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it

gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

JOB 32:1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in

his own eyes.

JOB 32:2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of

the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified

himself rather than God.

JOB 33:8 Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of

thy words, saying,

JOB 33:9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there

iniquity in me.

JOB 35:2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is

more than God's?

JOB 35:7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of

thine hand?

JOB 35:8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may

profit the son of man.

PSA 10:5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his

sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

PSA 10:6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be

in adversity.

PRO 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth

unto counsel is wise.

PRO 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof

are the ways of death.

PRO 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth

the spirits.

PRO 20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man

who can find?

PRO 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth

the hearts.

PRO 25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind

without rain.

PRO 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own

glory is not glory.

PRO 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a

fool than of him.

PRO 27:2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and

not thine own lips.

PRO 27:21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man

to his praise.

PRO 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and

forsaketh them shall have mercy.

PRO 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh

wisely, he shall be delivered.

PRO 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not

washed from their filthiness.

PRO 30:13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids

are lifted up.

ISA 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their

own sight!

ISA 28:17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the

plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall

overflow the hiding place.

ISA 28:20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and

the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

ISA 47:7 And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not

lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

ISA 50:11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with

sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled.

This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

ISA 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as

filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind,

have taken us away.

ISA 65:3 A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that

sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

ISA 65:4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat

swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

ISA 65:5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than

thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

JER 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the

fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that

can hold no water.

JER 2:22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much sope, yet

thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

JER 2:23 How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?

see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary

traversing her ways;

JER 2:34 Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor

innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

JER 2:35 Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn

from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

JER 7:4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple

of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

JER 8:8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo,

certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

JER 17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and

maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

JER 49:4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O

backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto

me?

JER 49:16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O

thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the

hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring

thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

EZE 33:24 Son of man, they that inhabit those wastes of the land of Israel

speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the

land is given us for inheritance.

EZE 33:25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Ye eat with the

blood, and lift up your eyes toward your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye

possess the land?

EZE 33:26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every

one his neighbour's wife: and shall ye possess the land?

HOS 12:8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance:

in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

AMO 6:13 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to

us horns by our own strength?

HAB 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just

shall live by his faith.

ZEP 3:11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou

hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee

them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my

holy mountain.

MAT 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in

thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many

wonderful works?

MAT 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me,

ye that work iniquity.

MAT 9:10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many

publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

MAT 9:11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why

eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

MAT 9:12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need

not a physician, but they that are sick.

MAT 9:13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not

sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

MAT 16:6 Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the

Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

MAT 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing

shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

MAT 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good

but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

MAT 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou

shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false

witness,

MAT 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour

as thyself.

MAT 19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my

youth up: what lack I yet?

MAT 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou

hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and

follow me.

MAT 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for

he had great possessions.

MAT 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a

wedding garment? And he was speechless.

MAT 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take

him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing

of teeth.

MAT 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the

tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

MAT 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have

been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

MAT 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children

of them which killed the prophets.

LUK 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And

he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

LUK 7:37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew

that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of

ointment,

LUK 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet

with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet,

and anointed them with the ointment.

LUK 7:39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within

himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what

manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

LUK 7:40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto

thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

LUK 7:41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five

hundred pence, and the other fifty.

LUK 7:42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell

me therefore, which of them will love him most?

LUK 7:43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most.

And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

LUK 7:44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this

woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she

hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

LUK 7:45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath

not ceased to kiss my feet.

LUK 7:46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed

my feet with ointment.

LUK 7:47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for

she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

LUK 7:48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

LUK 7:49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who

is this that forgiveth sins also?

LUK 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

LUK 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying,

Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

LUK 10:26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

LUK 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy

heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind;

and thy neighbour as thyself.

LUK 10:28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou

shalt live.

LUK 10:29 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my

neighbour?

LUK 10:30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to

Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded

him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

LUK 10:31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he

saw him, he passed by on the other side.

LUK 10:32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on

him, and passed by on the other side.

LUK 10:33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when

he saw him, he had compassion on him,

LUK 10:34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine,

and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

LUK 10:35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave

them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou

spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

LUK 10:36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that

fell among the thieves?

LUK 10:37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him,

Go, and do thou likewise.

LUK 15:2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth

sinners, and eateth with them.

LUK 15:25 Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to

the house, he heard musick and dancing.

LUK 15:26 And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

LUK 15:27 And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed

the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

LUK 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out,

and intreated him.

LUK 15:29 And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve

thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never

gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

LUK 15:30 But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living

with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

LUK 15:31 And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have

is thine.

LUK 15:32 It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy

brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

LUK 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things:

and they derided him.

LUK 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before

men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is

abomination in the sight of God.

LUK 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves

that they were righteous, and despised others:

LUK 18:10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the

other a publican.

LUK 18:11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee,

that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as

this publican.

LUK 18:12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

LUK 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his

eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a

sinner.

LUK 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the

other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth

himself shall be exalted.

JOH 9:34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins,

and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

JOH 9:39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they

which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

JOH 9:40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and

said unto him, Are we blind also?

JOH 9:41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now

ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

ROM 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy

boast of God,

ROM 2:18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more

excellent, being instructed out of the law;

ROM 2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light

of them which are in darkness,

ROM 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form

of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

ROM 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to

establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the

righteousness of God.

ROM 11:19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be

graffed in.

ROM 11:20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by

faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

ROM 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also

spare not thee.

2CO 1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust

in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

2CO 10:17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

GAL 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he

deceiveth himself.

REV 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have

need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and

poor, and blind, and naked:

REV 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest

be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of

thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou

mayest see.
